To say that I was not surprised about the outcome of the latest pleading before the high court would be an understatement. If you were, ask yourself why? Think about it, when exactly was the latest time the Supreme Court ruled against the feds and for the states?
The only thing that surprised me was the breakout of justices ruling for tyranny and the twisted logic used to accomplish the latest loss of freedom. So, I sat back and watched the talking heads on the television all come out and explain what this means and how it will affect you, how this is good how this is bad. How Roberts betrayed us, how he is so brilliant.
What a waste of my time. All these people on both sides looking for the bright shining tidbit that will make sense of this latest decree from on high. But far more interesting was the postings by average citizens on the internet. The stages — shock, anger, grasping for anything good and finally acceptance. I expected this but I was surprised at the speed with which some have already moved on to acceptance. I just wonder what it is in some people’s makeup that leads them to be victims, to accept that they are not worthy of being treated with respect for their dignity, humanity, their God given rights.
I am saddened by how quickly some people will strap on their new set of chains. For most, I think it must be the constant bombardment of rules, regulations, and laws all designed to control, to manipulate, to keep you off balance. People want to live their lives in anonymity, they do not want to be bothered, so they let others handle the tough decisions, which in most case turns out to be the government. But when they decide to let government decide things for them, they join that throng of people that are all marching on the road to serfdom.
When Benjamin Franklin was asked after the Constitutional Convention, “What type of government have you given us?” He answered, “A Republic if you can keep it.”
The ink had barely dried on the parchment and there were those that were thinking of ways to gain control of the new government. The checks and balances were just minor hurdles for those that wanted to twist the Constitution into creating a National government instead of a Federal Government. With only one real provision in the Constitution — the Senate — by which the states had any real control of the new government things were tenuous from the beginning. But then that last vestige of control was given up with the Seventeenth Amendment by the very States it was meant to protect.
So, let’s face facts, we do not have a federal government, we have a general, a central, a national government that is becoming less and less responsive to the people and to the Sovereign States that created it.
Frankenstein’s monster comes to mind.
What we have now is a one size fits all, top down, centralized national government that is bordering on tyranny. You have a legislature that enacts laws it doesn’t read, expanded on by nameless faceless bureaucrats. A President that decides what laws he will enforce and who writes his own laws with the stroke of a pen. And to finish off this triple play against the states and the citizens you have the Supreme Court giving their stamp of Constitutional approval to these unconstitutional actions. All the while they will tell you they are doing all of this to help you, really it’s all to make your life better.
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” — C. S. Lewis
And there you have it; we know what is best for you, so sit down and shut up!
There is now a movement that is spreading across the country by liberty minded people who believe in their fellow man’s worth and know that freedom lost for some is freedom lost for all. But, they should know that history has shown the abuses once begun are difficult to arrest.
As stated in the Declaration of Independence:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness.—That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,—That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. (Emphasis added)
So, other that throwing off our new masters in Washington, DC what do we do? Are we out of options? Is there really nothing we can do?
Well, the first thing we do is stop wasting our time and money fighting the feds in the courts. It solves nothing, our freedoms are not protected and it only enriches the lawyers. We must elect liberty minded people to our State and local offices and DEMAND that they do their duty, protect the citizens of the State, and promote State Sovereignty by NULLIFYING ALL UNCONSTITUTIONAL FEDERAL ACTIONS!
Not sure where to begin, then look to the Tenth Amendment Centers Legislative Action Page for model legislation that will return powers back to where they belong — the States. But get out there and support the Tenth Amendment Movement in North Carolina and the candidates that will fight for your freedoms at the State level by reigning in the federal government.
